I should have ordered the medium size instead of the large, which I did. However, I was able to make these work, which ended up working out well for me because this filter covers a larger area of my pump. Anyone who has owned goldfish is familiar with how much ammonia and garbage they produce. Since I purchased them, I have used this particular brand of filter without experiencing any problems. To extend the life of the filters a little bit, I'm even able to clean them off occasionally. These filters have kept my goldfish happy for the past four years (so far). Absolutely a recommendation.

For many years, I have used the Marineland Emporer filter in my fish tanks. The mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration are nicely balanced. This insert has elements that are mechanical and chemical (via the activated carbon). It functions well and can be purchased from Amazon for a fairly good price.The fact that the cartridge has carbon built in is the sole reason I gave it four stars. Most of the time, I don't mind this because it just gradually turns into more biological material (contrary to popular belief, carbon does not leach material back into the tank after 30 days). The component I don't like is that I have to cut open the filter's back and shake out the carbon if I want to medicate the tank. It is not a big issue, it is simple to execute, and the medium is still strong thereafter, but it is a step that must be taken in the extremely unlikely event that a disease does spread.I mostly use this device for mechanical filtering, and I frequently clean and re-use the same insert for six months or more. The filter material is durable and has a lengthy lifespan.It is an amazing product for what it is.

When I first bought these filters, I was unaware that the cartridges quickly became quite dirty due to the old junk inside the filter if you did not take the filter apart and clean it out.Additionally, I now disassemble the filter when the water flow starts to slow down, clean it thoroughly, and then rinse the cartridge.I am now more content with this product and would suggest it.

Model: 110. 90-gallon saltwater FOWLER tank for storage.Along with two hang-on Aqua-C Remora protein skimmers, I operate the 110. (the original, medium size model). I have two fish that are 8 to 9 inches long; both were bought in 1988, making them 30 years old. Under-tank sumps would be difficult for me to manage because I have restricted mobility in my right leg. I rely on big, reachable hang-on (HOT) things instead. The 110, in my opinion, has the highest flow rate of any HOT filter available in the US.I add a mesh bag with PhosGuard to collect phosphates in addition to the ceramic media and sponge filter that are already included. Since the nitrate level is 20, my skimmers are effectively cleaning up after two large fish, and the AquaClear maintains the water pure and the particles at a minimum. Every four to six months, when the flow rate lowers, I only clean it.I purchased a second 110 unit to utilize for spare components in case I needed them because my neighborhood fish store does not carry replacement parts. The U-shaped siphon tube, which I dropped and shattered, is the only non-original component that has so far been running in the filter after five years of use (not a defect). You can purchase certain individual parts online, but the price can add up. For me, it made more sense to purchase an entire complete equipment (even if it is still in its original box in the garage), as you have immediate access to any needed parts. For me, it was a good deal because the price of a 110 at the time I purchased unit #2 was $20 less than the price of one today.

This filter is amazing! You can hear the water coming into the tank even if it isn't particularly loud.My 10gal tank has a tetra filter that has made it cleaner than it was before.The biowheel wouldn't turn for me initially, but as I turned my wheel over so the axel ends switched sides, everything was good.The filtration system does just fine without the middle component with the shutter, though I had to remove it because it would have made the intake too long to fit in my 10gal tank.Due to the presence of sand in my tank and to prevent the system from becoming clogged with food and other debris, I attached a fluval presponge to the intake. It provides food for my fish.

The filter appears effective. I wish it was quieter. It sounds like a loud FOUNTAIN; i'm not sure if it's my tank or what. I have unsuccessfully tried to adjust the volume down. It's so loud that people can hear me when I'm talking on the phone. Specifically, everyone I've spoken to has asked, "What's that water noise?" When I respond, "That's my new aquarium," they ask, "You got a new aquarium? ". and I concur. I can't remember the last time I overheard someone's aquarium over the phone. In an effort to reduce noise, I also have the aquarium in a cabinet that I close at night. but that's okay. I make up being fortunate. For those fountains and noisemakers, people must pay a lot of money, right? I received one free. The filter is effective. The water is clean and transparent, and the amount of water flowing through and pushing out lets me know the suction is strong (hence the lovely fountain sound).
