I'm pleased I chose the 10 lb 1/2 inch because the lower one could have been too small or worse, more like crushed rock. I'm using it in a fire dancer that I purchased from Amazon, my favorite tiny jet propane portable camp fire. As I'd heard vermiculite can be hazardous to breathe, I decided to replace the vermiculite that comes with it. It shines beautifully. Although it's darker than it appears in the picture—more of a smoky dark grey—I received the bronze, which looks nice with the black dancer. I probably would have chosen the clear or gold option. When you can't see it up close, it's challenging to purchase anything like this online. However, the reflection is excellent.

I purchased this material to use as a canister filter for an aquarium. I purchased the 1/4" to 1/2" rocks thinking there would be a variety in that size. What I got was around 98% 1/4", 1% difficult-to-separate small particles, and perhaps 1% somewhat larger than 1/4." Cleaning wasn't too bad; just drop it in a pail of water and stir till it clears. If I had it to do over, I would choose a larger size since while they perform the job, the small size and numerous microscopic particles worry me that one day something might get sucked into the pump.

I really loved how these looked. But because we burned them in a gas firepit, soot covered them. Although it wipes off, it is not at all practical. replaced it with rock that is really intended for usage with propane. Some, I suppose, are not. These are obviously not. However, I did adore the way they seemed, and a natural gas firepit could be the perfect place for them.
