Because the HAKKO FR301-03/P Desoldering Tool works so well to remove solder from pins and PCB holes for the tasks I've completed, I am really happy with my purchase.The HAAKO FR301 is incredibly simple to use, quickly heats up to the point of melting solder, has excellent suction, and comes with a sufficient plunger to clean the nozzle and channel while using it at a high temperature.I was able to remove every component from a board, including a 28 pin IC, delicate ceramic capacitors, a 16 MHz crystal, a push button switch, 4ct 1 x 14, 2ct 2 x 3, and a 1 x 2 header pins, all without causing any damage to the other parts. Very happy with the efficiency and outcomes.The metal piece meant to serve as the FR301's rest support is not particularly useful. I did use it, however it requires that the tool be placed on its side to rest, takes up a lot of room when doing so, and, depending on the firmness and flatness of the surface, may not rest securely in the cradle of the provided holder. I therefore placed my purchase for the Hakko 633-01 iron holder.I spent days deliberating over the best de-soldering tool. Since I currently have a number of large devices at my workspace, I needed something small. I deliberately chose to invest the money on this device after reading evaluations for it and other equipment and viewing some internet videos and reviews. At the moment, I couldn't be happier.

For me, there is just ONE desoldering braid. The braid is really thin. Fine and dense filaments are present. It WORKS like magic, therefore it must have some kind of built-in flux to help with soaking or wicking. doesn't completely absorb the heat from the tip of my micro-soldering pen.

Without any more flux added, when utilized, it emits a fragrance that is unlike any flux fumes I have ever encountered—and, regrettably, I have smelled a lot of fluxes over the years. After you turn on the heat for the first time in the fall, it kind of smells like your house. Without more flux, this wick doesn't function all that well since if you linger too long, the solder and any leftover flux will start to burn. I believe that the number of strands, which appear to be thinner, and the design of the braid are mostly responsible for its ability to "remove up to four times more solder than traditional wick" and "far faster than wicks based on Type-R fluxes," but that's just my assumption. NTE doesn't have a comprehensive datasheet, but based on the assertion that was taken from their website, it isn't a flux made from rosin. When I add my RA flux liquid, it performs MUCH better, so maybe their flux isn't very good or maybe there isn't enough of it.

This solder wick is excellent and the right width for medium-sized projects. For particularly difficult tasks, you might not even need to dip it in flux because it contains rosin. Work from the wick's tip and avoid unduly unraveling it when using solder wick (the "case" acts as a heat shield). Cut it off and start anew until there is about a half inch filled with [wicked] solder. You'll improve with practice. It is exceedingly inefficient to begin from a place up the wick (away from the end), thus avoid doing so. I'm sorry about the horrible [past tense] verb.

Excellent for hand-soldering TSSOP IC packages. With my $5 piece of crap 35W soldering iron and the tiny small TSSOP ICs' 0.65mm center-to-center pin spacing, I was a little hesitant to try to hand-solder them. But when I realized how simple it was, I was pleasantly delighted. But the secret element was this solder wick!Lining up the component on the pads was difficult, but once you've done that and tacked it down, you can just solder all of the pins without concern for pin-to-pin shorts. Then, using only a few pieces of "special" equipment (I do suggest a magnifier light/scope and a PCB vise), use this wick to slurp-up the extra solder and remove the solder bridges. This solder wick worked without a hitch.I've used other solder wicks before that weren't as effective. The Rosin flux in this wick, in my opinion, makes a significant impact. It did a great job and has the ideal ratio of flux to wick. Additionally, this wick's 0.10" width is almost ideal for creating TSSOP packaging. No grievances.

I've been soldering for more than 50 years, and I've desoldered components using a variety of techniques.The finest method for doing this is frequently a solder sucker, but when using a wick, this is by far the best I have discovered.It needs water. Without adding more, there is already enough rosin (flux) to function. Any residue may be removed with ease. Furthermore, 5 feet of this material is quite a bit! Even if it seems pricey, you get what you pay for in this case.

This is one of my favorite tools in my electronics toolbox and I use it frequently when working on Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects.The solder syringes are cumbersome and difficult to use, in my opinion. Set a small amount of solder over the area you want to remove, then place the tip of your hot iron over it to melt the solder. Then, it will be absorbed by the wick.But please be cautious! Because the wick is made of copper, a good heat conductor, this substance heats up quite quickly. Normally, I roll out a few inches to prevent the iron's heat from melting the plastic holding in the cooper.

This device is really useful. It fits in the hand well, is neither too big nor too little, and can be easily operated with only one hand. I've had all-plastic units in the past, and they frequently get warm or become damaged. This unit's metallic body is excellent. Although the plastic tip on this device is somewhat disappointing, I have found that it can survive some limited direct heat from the iron without any problems. The suction power is respectable; there is no vacuum, but if you properly liquefy the junction, it will remove the majority of the solder at once. That's kind of why I got the sucker, ha, although I haven't tried using the wick that comes with it. I'd suggest it for the mild to moderate home user; it's a useful unit to have.

First, since the late 1970s, I have worked as an electronics and computer technician.I didn't have high expectations for the quality of this desoldering kit when I got it, but when it arrived, I was pleasantly impressed by how sturdy the construction is.The braid/wick is exactly what you would anticipate from braid.However, the pump system is excellent for a little manual soldering sucker. The suction from the plunger is considerably greater than I would anticipate or hope for at this price point, and all parts fit together perfectly without any slippage. I've paid much more throughout the years for just the sucker and received nothing but cheap plastic trash.This device seems like it will last for many years and countless hours of use.

Solder is properly vacuumed up, and when the plunger is pressed, the solder is released. No need to disassemble it in order to clean it; easy peasy. The wick is excellent. The cost? Better still. You won't regret buying it, so do it now!
