The display goes on when you walk onto it, shows you the weight, and then shuts off after about 10 seconds. I had to visit the doctor the day we got ours, so I weighed myself before I left the house and my weight was only.2 pounds off the doctor's scale. That's quite accurate, in my opinion! Although I truly prefer that, it does not save your weight from a previous weigh-in. Without that option, I find it to be much easier to use because I can remember (or write it down).
