My 105-pound Rottweiler was constantly licking a sore toe. Our veterinarian checked him out. She examined the region after shaving his left toe and discovered no foreign objects there, so she ordered antibiotics for 10 days. He was given a big, uncomfortable plastic cone to take home. Instead, I applied a cotton sock to his foot, but whenever I wasn't around, he'd take it off and resume licking his toe. I decided on the Comfy Cone collar XX-Large after reading reviews and ratings. It's cushioned, well-made, and operates flawlessly. Since the cone can be altered in size and is held in place with velcro, I didn't need to use my dog's collar to hold it in place. It's not a problem because my dog is well-behaved. He cannot touch his toes since the cone reaches far enough. My dog's neck is 25 inches long. Two pictures are provided.Update: To prevent him from touching his eyes, my dog had to wear the cone (again) for a week. Given that the cone is padded and cozy, he prefers to sleep in it. It is now easier to take him outdoors and feed him since I can slip the cone on and off without having to fasten the velcro every time after adjusting the size. Perhaps since my dog has a large head, I can carefully put it on and take it off. The cone suits him quite fine.

I don't know how it happened, but I ended up ordering a Large even though I truly required an Extra Large. When I returned the item because it didn't fit after I received it, I discovered a completely different size chart on the business' website. In case it's useful to anyone else, I've included that here. The product is soft, but not so floppy that it closes over the dog's head as he sleeps, which is why I enjoy it.

This collar's textile construction appealed to me and gave me the impression that it was more comfortable than the previous plastic collars. This was necessary since our 100-pound dog kept licking medicine off of a problem spot. He didn't appear to mind wearing it, and when it was removed, he even made an effort to get it back on (He has a weird affection for ANY kind of collar). It did keep him from reaching the places (his front paws and hind hip) he had been licking the medication off of. This purchase made me happy.

Review:

I purchased this to replace the absurd cone that my veterinarian "handed" me (overcharged me for). I carefully sought out a cone without the tiny holes that are used to accommodate various sizes of the snap-close variety. My dog had eye surgery, and as he rubbed his eye against the tiny holes, he tore out a stitch. This cone performed flawlessly. After a week of intensive use and a puppy who enjoys dashing into anything in his path, there were no problems with the Velcro. When he bumps into things, it does have some small marks where it has bowed somewhat, but it doesn't affect how effective it is.

Review:

This E-Kong Cone performed admirably. Our poor dog didn't enjoy it, but he didn't run away and handled it well. We only utilized it after a surgery when we couldn't watch over him. He weighs about 75 pounds, and the procedure was performed high on his back inner thigh, close to the groin. He was easily prevented from reaching that area by this cone. The outer material is solid and soft, and I think the inner tube is strong (had to use a pump to inflate it). I believe it to be a really wonderful product that greatly benefited us. I'm really delighted we purchased it.A April 2019 update The adorable puppy started licking the region of his front leg where an IV site had been shaved off. Was worried that a hot area would form. I had no idea that this pillow would actually prevent him from reaching his front leg, but IT DID. I'm overjoyed. At our house, this collar has already twice prevented major problems!

Hallelujah! Bravo to whoever came up with the idea for these doggie blow-up collars. Compared to traditional Elizabethan collars, they are significantly more comfortable and less restrictive. When I worked as a vet tech, I saw a lot of uncomfortable dogs using e-collars, but the dogs are much easier to train to wear these blow-up collars. (And the human legs won't have any more scrapes and bruises)Although dogs with long snouts or lengthy bodies may still be able to reach belly wounds or tail issues, they are something I recommend to my dog training clients because they work for the majority of dogs. While always, be sure to praise your dog often as you learn him to wear one. I strongly advise purchasing one ADVANCED of when you actually need it and working with your dog to accustom them. Consider it only as an additional tool in your "oeK9 wound treatment kit." Young dogs or those who have not received the appropriate training with these MAY be able to remove or harm it, but dogs who are accustomed to wearing one typically have no problems.Due to a knee ailment, one of my dogs is currently wearing one. Despite being relaxed and comfortable in the collar, she is just about to fall asleep.
