You should purchase this even if you don't need a gas valve key! In my situation, the one I had was corroded and outdated, so I actually needed it for my outdoor fire pit. For valves that are recessed further back than usual, the 8-in length works excellent (not actually sure why they do that). Most likely someone was terrible at measuring. replacing the rocks in a propane campfire with these. One of the few choices big enough to give spacing instead of the gravel effect. Although it's just my perspective, I think the round polished look is preferable than the original rocks. Since the second hasn't been used frequently, I can't really judge how long it will last.
