The inexpensive tiny mp3 players I've had in recent years haven't exactly made me happy. This one completely eclipses the competition. It includes all of the essential equipment you require. I used the WaterFi iPod while swimming three days a week until it was stolen and I had to get a new one. Even though I was satisfied with the Waterfi, I still chose to try the SYRYN, mostly since it was just 1/4 the price of the WaterFi-iPod.I'm pleased with the outcome after two sessions. It's easy to perform all four strokes, flip turns, and even starts. While the iPod is infamous for tipping over while moving quickly, the Syryn stayed put, probably because of how the clip attachment was made. Although the Syryn is bigger and doesn't look as sleek, I noticed less drag compared to the iPod (which is dragging because it is frequently turned 90 degrees after a turn).The SYRYN looks to have been built from the ground up to be a waterproof MP3 player, but the WaterFi iPod is an aftermarket retrofit, which is the most interesting difference between the two products. Being an engineer for many years, I know that retrofits always have some sort of design error.Take buttons as an example. Each of the six individual buttons on the iPod—play/pause, volume up, down, forward track, back track, and mode—as well as the single switch (on/off/shuffle) exposes a different point where water can get inside. By injecting silicon, the Waterfi retrofit generates the waterproofing. Because of this, pressing the buttons is challenging, and doing so causes the silicone to slide. After using the iPod for two years, I discovered that when the center button is pressed, water drops come out, leading me to believe that the device may no longer be waterproof.Syryn, on the other hand, has chosen to handle the waterproofing by reducing it to 3 buttons, each of which has a dual function depending on how long the button is pressed. Because they are confusing, some users have argued that buttons with shared functionality are a problem. Although it may not seem intuitive, the engineering is clever since it minimizes water access locations. Additionally, since the Syryn just has one cover, there is no problem with silicone degrading, and pressing the buttons is simple.Although the Syryn warranty is just for a year (as opposed to two for Waterfi), I predict that it will survive longer than the iPod. In the event that it doesn't, I'll amend this comment later.
