Best NES Consoles in 2022

When it comes to classic gaming, few consoles are more beloved than the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Released in North America in 1985, the NES revolutionized the home console market, bringing arcade-style gaming to the masses. With its iconic controller, a wide variety of classic games, and its iconic graphics, the NES is a beloved piece of gaming history. For many, the NES is the go-to console for classic gaming.

If you’re looking to get into NES gaming, you may be wondering where to start. With so many different versions of the system, controllers, and games, it can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are some tips for finding the best NES console for your needs.

First, consider what you want to get out of your NES experience. Do you want to play the classic games as they were meant to be played? Or do you prefer to mod your console and explore the world of homebrew games? Your answer will determine which version of the NES is best for you.

If you’re looking for the original experience, the original NES or the top-loading NES-101 are your best bet. These systems are the most reliable and have the most accurate emulation of the original games. For those looking to mod their system, the NES-101 can be modded easily with the help of a few inexpensive parts.

Next, consider the controllers. The original NES controllers are iconic and offer great precision, but they can wear out over time. If you’re looking for a more reliable option, consider investing in an aftermarket controller such as an 8BitDo or Retro-Bit. These controllers offer the same feel as the original NES controller, but with more reliable construction.

Finally, you’ll want to consider the games. The NES library is vast and includes some of the best games ever made. If you’re looking for the classics, you’ll want to pick up the original cartridges. For those looking to expand their library, there are a variety of reproduction cartridges available as well as a wide selection of homebrew games.

Finding the best NES console for your needs is not a difficult task. With so many options, there’s something for everyone. All you need to do is determine what you want out of your NES experience and find the system and accessories that best suit your needs.

Review:

A pretty cool retro gaming system with 30 vintage NES games pre-loaded is the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition. It is now widely known that the system can be readily upgraded to play more than 700 games if desired. You can choose to do this or not. Additionally, at the retail price, this system used to be almost impossible to find. That's not the situation anymore. Every week, I see these offered at the regular retail price at a number of stores. Don't be conned by those selling them for more money. Keep an eye out for vendors offering false knockoff products. Purchase from a reliable supplier.Back to the system now that we have cleared those items up. One wired controller, an HDMI cable, a USB cable, and a USB power supply are included. The controller's wire is a little on the short side, but extension cables are inexpensive. Generic controllers are also fairly affordable, and wireless controllers are also an option. The games function smoothly once the system is connected. They still resemble how they did thirty years ago. The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition will satisfy your desire for some 8-bit nostalgia.

Review:

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little worried, but everything is precisely as described. It functions perfectly; back in the day, I had only played about five of the games it came with and had only heard of about half of them. I got a few wireless controllers because I agreed that the one controller that comes with it is a little short. For anyone who enjoys playing old-school video games.

Review:

This NES clone system is excellent! It performs admirably when playing multicart NES games, both authentic and reproduction. It is simple to assemble, has a modest profile, and offers excellent value for the $20 asking price. It appears to be well-made and to have solid construction. The controllers are quite cozy and still have a classic Nintendo design. The pins on the interior of the console have a strong hold, which is nice, but every time I pull a game out, I worry that I might damage a piece of the console or the cartridge; hopefully, they will become a little more pliable with time.

Review:

This review was largely written with individuals who are experiencing video troubles in mind. The output on this device is the usual yellow, red, and white. Since most modern tvs only have ONE rca type input, the majority of new hd tvs will not function well with many of these retro-style video consoles. You are given two options. 1) A straightforward ch 3/4 modulator can be used. The issue I had with utilizing one of these was that the modulator would temporarily go off and then come back on as the game switched from one screen to another, interrupting the video feed for a microsecond. This might be really irritating. 2) I ultimately used a UHF modulator. The reason for this is that it never turns off, even when the video signal briefly fails.Hope this was useful. If you have any questions, please feel free to remark.

Review:

This is the greatest version of Duck Hunt for the NES (original Nintendo). If you're attempting to play the classic games:1. Neither the authentic, vintage Nintendo weapons nor any of these copies will function with a contemporary flat-screen TV. You will need to find an old, thick, heavy tube-style television on the curb or at a thrift shop.2. The majority of imitation Nintendo systems and replica weapons are compatible with the actual Nintendo systems.3. Regrettably, the majority of original Nintendo weapons only function occasionally or possibly not at all. (I purchased a number of original Nintendo weapons before giving up and attempting this one.)4. Once more, there were no compatibility difficulties; but, the original firearms are simply too old and have not held up as well as they should.5. Nevertheless, there are variations. These replica firearms are not identical to the originals. The trigger on the original rifle offers stiff resistance, and it snaps loudly and satisfyingly when you pull the trigger. The remake weapons are substantially lighter than the originals, have delicate triggers that only barely click when you pull the trigger, and have much shorter cords.Overall, I give this gun five stars despite the fact that an original Nintendo gun would be preferable because it is compatible, it works with Retron3 and Yobo, and it genuinely functions. Of course, finding an original Nintendo pistol that is still completely operational is difficult. The gun in the photo is blue, but the one I received is orange and resembles an original orange gun (unrelated Note).

Review:

This is exactly what I wanted but didn't realize it. Having a home version of this game, which I adore in the arcade, is a dream come true. The targeting is accurate enough that you don't notice any problems, and the game works flawlessly. But when you try to calibrate it, it can be a little wacky, and sometimes when you go back to the system hub, the controller disconnects, and you have to wait the full five minutes for the system to go into sleep mode before you can get it to reconnect. I discovered that the best way to play produced the best response from the controller was to turn off any primary overhead lighting. It doesn't earn five stars because of the calibration and playing in the dark, but it won't stop me from absolutely adoring it.
