I bought these as my husband's Valentine's Day gift along with a great bottle of bourbon. Because several of his buddies also prefer bourbon, he lately began to sip on some. I figured they'd enjoy these so they could have appropriate samples when they got together. I first came across these glasses alongside a decanter on another website. Since I had always believed that a rocks glass was the "proper" glass for bourbon and scotch, I began researching these glasses. It makes sense that they are the preferred glass for sampling as they were created to look like the tasting glasses that the producers of the spirits use. Since a large portion of the flavor of old spirits is held in the nose, the form is intended to contain the spirit's "nose," which is crucial for consumption. The tulip lip is used to thinly apply the liquid to the tongue's tip in order to detect faint overtones.
