This product appears to have performed wonderfully when combined with the 2-part epoxy from the local hardware store. This tiny bottle will color a lot of resin, just as the directions state. Oh my god, it turned DARK black after I used 2 drops for roughly 3 grams of epoxy. Two droplets were probably excessive for the meager amount of epoxy. Although everything appears to be alright, I was concerned that I had overdone it and it might interfere with the curing of such a small amount. The result was an extremely glossy, ultra dark black.

I was so impressed with this resin that I returned to both write a review (which I don't believe I've ever done) and buy a ton more of it. This is why:I was really skeptical when I bought some of this resin. I've used OTHER transparent resins in the before, and they were very moisture and temperature sensitive, somewhat intolerant of additions like dyes and pigments, too thick to flow into the fine details of my jewelry-sized molds, requiring vacuum degassing, pressure casting, and even oven baking.The exact opposite of all that was this clear resin from Art 'N Glow. Even though I had serious doubts about the self-degassing claim, after a few hours, all the bubbles floated to the surface and burst. I've tried adding colors, pigments, and glitter, and the resin always sets up properly. The pot life is long enough for me to take my time, modify the amounts of the additives, and fill little molds gradually. Although it DOES take the entire 24 hours to fully cure, I believe that this is a worthwhile trade-off given how simple it is to use. I haven't yet encountered anything that has caused me to regret my purchase. Fantastic stuff!

A friend of mine once expressed the wish that she had been aware of these when her husband was still living. I was taken aback by how easy it was to make. Just wanted to mention how much I adored this item! I got it as a surprise for my sister-in-law while I was visiting with her over the weekend for her baby shower. It only took us about 2 hours to set up, finish the cast, and clean everything up. She reported that it was only mildly uncomfortable throughout the drying process, but that was to be expected. It would have been SO useful if the package had pre-measured strips and a tray to dip them in, which is the only reason I did not give it five stars. The hardest part was trying to cut the strips because there was plaster dust EVERYWHERE! I next had to clean my mixing bowl, which I had used to dip the strips.My one piece of advice is to 1) wait between 25 and 30 minutes longer before removing the cast. There were still a few moist areas that started to bow when we peeled it off at the suggested 20. A quarter of a roll of plaster tape should also be saved. When the cast is complete and completely dried, bring it up to the light to make sure there is no light visible through it. Patch any weak areas with the leftover plaster strips, and smooth up the cast's edges (which can still be rough after being trimmed/sanded).

Review:

Poured this over a printed photo at a thickness of roughly 1/8" thus far, so good. It's still tacky because it's healing (instructions state that the whole cure may take up to 7 days), but it is hard and very clear. The challenge of maintaining cleanliness for such a long cure period is its drawback. Please try to utilize this in a spot that is clean because I seem to have gotten some dust or particles in there. Other than that, it is quite obvious and appears to have worked really effectively. Simple to follow; just combine equal volumes of A and B, stir slowly to prevent a lot of bubbles, and pour. As long as you pour the resin onto a flat surface, there shouldn't be any problems. However, I wouldn't suggest pouring the resin entirely in the center of the area where you are doing this.

The epoxy is fantastic. It functions as intended and has wonderful color choices. Even better, you can combine different colors to create your own hues. I used it to photograph some of the jewelry I had created, but someone stole my camera after deciding they liked it better than me. Since I had them backed up on Google, I'm in the process of getting my images back; once they're on my computer, I'll upload. I'm very happy with how these came out. Here is a fantastic sample if anyone needs an idea of how many decent-sized castings one box of this may produce.My larger skulls are 3.5"x8"x1.5" in size.My miniature skulls are 2.5"x5.5"x1" in size.With a single box of Smooth Cast, I was able to obtain exactly 4 of each. Sadly, this only left me with 1 large skull; but, more are on the way!This equipment is very easy to operate in terms of simplicity. I produced my own silicone molds, but I think their molding procedure would have been more efficient because my silicone had considerable porosity, which required a lot of sanding. Because the leftover mix in my cups chips off easily, I discovered that cleaning up was also simpler if I let it cure.

I've purchased multiple boxes of this resin in the past two years because I adore it. How come I adore it? It is simple to use because you don't need to use two separate containers and stir sticks to mix it twice. The mixture will pour clear and have a very small number of bubbles that you will need to pop if you pour parts a and b separately into two of the small cups provided, microwave them for three minutes, wait for the bubbles to vanish, and then carefully mix a and b together. My fave is it!
